Sixteen-year–old Kim Simon left her Marcy, NY home just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 18, 1985 and never returned. The next day her body was found in a wooded area approximately a mile from her home. The initial investigation eventually led to the conviction of a local man, Steven Barnes, who spent nearly 20 years incarcerated before advances in DNA testing helped overturn his conviction. Since Barnes’ release, a thorough reinvestigation took place that led to a pool of suspects – some new, some old. Nearly four decades later, this case still remains open as Kim’s loved ones still hold out hope that those responsible will be brought to justice.
