It's all about countering cortisol and adrenaline with dopamine and serotonin, mixing cocktails by bringing up the pressure, and then backing off and allowing time (eons at first) for the horse to drop his head, blink slowly, relax his ears, and, finally, lick and chew and yawn and stretch. Alivio is a 6 year old APHA gelding who was anxious and head shy when I brought him home in fall of 2022. I reached out to West for help after failing to make much progress with traditional horsemanship. What I've learned is life changing.
