The Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA) was set up on 29 May 1947 as a representative body for UK-based correspondents and journalists reporting on and covering India and South Asia-related issues. Over the years, heads of State, heads of Government, members of Royalty and various eminent personalities have attended IJA events, ranging from press conferences to annual dinners and interactions with UK and India Cabinet ministers. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has attended two IJA events in the past, most recently in 2017, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence Day. Other prominent guests in the past have included Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Morarji Desai, Margaret Thatcher, Clement Attlee, Harold Macmillan, Harold Wilson, the Duke of Edinburgh, Arun Jaitley and Nitin Gadkari as well as with Nobel Prize winner Professor Venkatraman Ramakrishnan.
